Heli-Cats: A Fresh Take on the Classic 2D Helicopter Game

February 8, 2023 | Andreas Betsche

Singapore-based developer DrearyWeary has announced their latest game, Heli-Cats, an upcoming 2D arcade SHMUP and a new gameplay mechanic appropriating what helicopters can do best.

The game’s unique dual-elevation gameplay offers players an extra layer of strategy as they switch between high and low elevations to avoid enemy fire. Will you dive down to stay alive or fly up to deal some severe damage?

Heli-Cats will feature two initial helicopters, with more to be unlocked as players progress through the game. The game also has eight arcade stages, with two more that can be unlocked under special conditions.

In addition, the game will offer multiple endings based on players’ performance and the secrets they uncover. It also includes an in-game credits system, allowing players to unlock new modes, upgrades, and customization options for their game.

DrearyWeary has released a new trailer showcasing the game’s fast-paced action and the beautiful 2D pixel art to give players a taste of what’s in store.

Heli-Cats’ unique dual-elevation mechanic and multiple endings will surely give players a memorable gaming experience, offering an unusual twist to the otherwise pleasantly retro experience reminiscent of classic arcade 2D shooters. So, get ready to take to the skies and shoot down enemy fire in Heli-Cats. You can wishlist the game now on Steam.
