Filipino Indie Developer Unveils Relic Abyss on Steam

July 4, 2024 | Andreas Betsche

Good news for bullet hell and roguelite enthusiasts! Philippines-based indie game developer Reverse Loop has announced that their upcoming title, Relic Abyss, is now available for wishlist on Steam. This Vampire Survivors-inspired game promises to blend intense action with deep strategic elements.

Relic Abyss puts players in control of one of twenty adventurers tasked with saving the world from destruction. The game’s core gameplay revolves around exploring the titular Abyss, a multi-layered dungeon that increases in difficulty as players descend deeper.

Key features of the game include:

  • Five base characters, each branching into three advanced classes: Might, Magic, and Science
  • Character progression through skills, ultimates, and permanent stats
  • An item system featuring relics and equipment that can be combined and upgraded
  • Deckbuilding elements with special stat-boosting cards
  • Multiple boss fights

Between gameplay sessions, players can unwind in a hub area, interacting with NPCs to delve deeper into the game’s lore. Relic Abyss also promises multiple endings, an endless game mode, and various mini-games to keep players engaged.

Visually, the game adopts a cute 2D art style contrasting its sombre premise and complex mechanics. Fans of indie games may recognize similarities to Towertale, as the team behind Relic Abyss includes that game’s former creators.

Reverse Loop has announced plans to release a demo soon. At launch, the game will support Windows, Linux, and Steam Deck. While no specific release date has been set, the developer has also not yet announced versions for consoles or mobile platforms.
