Niskala: Sacred Knowledge of Leyak is rooted into Balinese Mysticism and Inner Conflict
Pandora Entertainment has announced Niskala: Sacred Knowledge of Leyak, a new horror adventure game that delves deep into Balinese folklore and mysticism. The game follows Putu, a college student grappling with mysterious afflictions after inheriting ancestral knowledge of “elusion” from his grandfather.

Set against the backdrop of Bali’s cultural landscape, Niskala integrates traditional spiritual concepts with modern gameplay mechanics. Players must navigate a complex system of interconnected status bars that affect their experience, including Blood, Sanity, and Social metrics. A feature called the Bulun Kala (Fear Radar) allows players to detect spiritual presences and mood changes in the game world.

The title references the Balinese concept of “leyak,” practitioners of black magic in local folklore, while weaving this traditional element into a contemporary story of personal struggle and cultural identity. As players progress through the game, the difficulty adjusts dynamically based on their performance across various status metrics, creating an increasingly challenging experience in its mystical environments.

The gameplay is planned to emphasize cultural authenticity, incorporating real Balinese customs and traditional greetings such as “om swastiastu” as defensive mechanisms against supernatural threats. Players must maintain proper etiquette and respect while exploring mystical environments and investigating Putu’s condition.

Beyond its supernatural elements, Niskala wants to examine themes of dualism between traditional and modern life in Bali, as well as the challenges of self-discovery. The narrative touches on the intersection of traditional healing and modern medicine, drawing from real-life experiences within Balinese communities.

Niskala: Sacred Knowledge of Leyak, currently available as a demo on Steam, features both English and Indonesian language options. According to Pandora Entertainment, Niskala aims to explore how individuals might seek spiritual guidance when conventional solutions prove insufficient.
