DreadOut Remastered Collection brings Indonesian horror to PlayStation and Switch
Digital Happiness and Soft Source Publishing have announced that DreadOut Remastered Collection will launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch on January 16, 2025.
The collection marks the first console release for the Indonesian supernatural horror game, which previously found success on PC.
The collection bundles the original DreadOut (2014) and its standalone DLC, DreadOut: Keepers of the Dark. Both digital and physical editions will be available at launch.
DreadOut puts players in the role of Linda, a high school student who becomes trapped in an abandoned town. Armed with only a smartphone and SLR camera, players must confront supernatural entities inspired by Indonesian mythology while solving puzzles. The game’s photography-based combat system draws comparisons to the Fatal Frame series.
DreadOut: Keepers of the Dark, the standalone DLC included in the collection, offers players additional supernatural encounters and challenges within the DreadOut universe.
While initially receiving mixed reviews, DreadOut gained significant popularity through YouTube coverage, eventually cultivating a dedicated following. The game is credited with helping establish the Southeast Asian horror game scene, particularly in Indonesia, and spawned a sequel and multiple spin-offs including DreadOut VR, DreadHaunt and a feature film.
The specific improvements included in the remastered collection remain undisclosed by both publisher and developer. The more powerful console hardware suggests potential enhancements to frame rate and resolution, though details about other possible changes, including fixes for known technical issues from the original release, have not been announced.
