The IGDX weekend isn’t just about how the game developers can grow their business; it’s also about recognizing up-and-coming games and companies.

The Indie Rise: New Talents Awards are a fruit of collaboration between Plug In Digital and IGDX & IFI. Application to this pitching competition was held from September 8 to October 7. The contest focuses explicitly on single-player PC or console games at any stage in the development process.

The initiative aims to find rising new talents in indie game development, giving them a chance to highlight their work and gain support. In recognition of their efforts, cash prizes are awarded for these successful teams and projects.

Here are the winners that got the attention of the judges and earned their time in the spotlight:

NEW CHALLENGER AWARD (US $2,500 Prize)

Awarded for studios with their first commercial project

Winner: Mushroommallow Studio for Wonder Wandelier

JURY’S CHOICE (US $2,500 Prize)

Winner: Devata Game Production for Biwar Legend of Dragon Slayer

BEST PROJECT (US $5,000 Prize)

Winner: Tamatin Entertainment for Insectbot

Congratulations to the winners, and VirtualSEA hopes to cover these games and more of their projects in the future.

Kenzie received a second childhood by crunching five generations of video game history in her free time – out of pure boredom and fascination. Since then, she’s been obsessively playing and writing about games and interactive fiction. She hopped aboard VirtualSEA to discover more about the regional game industry and help promote its talent and titles. She has a rolling list of favorite games, but Knights of the Old Republic and Horizon Zero Dawn come out on top.
