Southeast Asian Indie Games Take Center Stage at PAX Australia
Ukiyo Studios, a Melbourne-based business development agency dedicated to supporting indie game developers, is set to make waves at this year’s PAX Australia with a showcase of Southeast Asian indie games.
Dubbed “SEA What I Made! (SWIM),” this exhibit marks the largest-ever Southeast Asian indie game delegation to hit Australian shores. From October 6th to October 8th, 2023, Booth #1050 at PAX Australia will transform into a “digital Southeast Asia”, featuring 15 titles from Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
Spotlight On for Southeast Asian Indie Games
In an industry that often focuses on Australia and New Zealand, SWIM aims to shift the spotlight onto the thriving gaming communities in Southeast Asia.
David Cardenas, co-founder of Ukiyo Studios, shares his vision for the SWIM showcase: “When people think of the Asia-Pacific games industry, what usually comes to mind is just Australia and New Zealand. Our goal with developing this booth is to highlight our neighbours in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines as well.“
This curated collection of indie games represents the diversity and creativity of the Southeast Asian gaming scene, spanning a wide range of genres from turn-based RPGs to Southeast Asian-inspired Diablo-likes and even restaurant management sims.
