Indonesian Roguelike Deckbuilder Montabi is a Creature Collecting Adventure

May 7, 2025 | Kenzie

Indonesian game developers Mankibo Studios announced the launch of their Steam page for their newest project: Montabi. They also announced that they will be working with renown indie publisher Akupara Games for the exciting new title.

Montabi are what you call the adorable warrior creatures you collect in this hybrid roguelike deckbuilder. The game is all about choosing your team and skills wisely to dominate in the grid-and-turn-based battle arena.

Their latest trailer features a look at a Montabi trainer (that’ll be you!) in the midst of a turn-based battle among busy city streets and hyped onlookers. The fantastic character designs and animations in the trailer promise a polished, cartoon-like visual style that complements the fun and frantic action of the city and its monster population.

Key gameplay features include:

  • A roster of 60+ Montabi upon release, each with their own design, strengths, and weaknesses and interesting evolutions
  • A strategic deckbuilding experience that will challenge your foresight and playstyle (and taste in Montabi!)
  • A bevy of choices of Montabi, trainer, deck, item, and path combos, making each run an exciting experience

With influences from the beloved mega-IP Pokémon and married to the ultra-popular roguelike deckbuilder genre, Montabi is promised to be as endearing and exciting experience.

Montabi will be available for PC via Steam. You can get updates for the game and Mankibo through their Discord community, or their Bluesky, X, YouTube, Tiktok, and Instagram pages.
