IGDX 2024 Featured Stellar Indonesian-made Games

November 2, 2024 | Kenzie

IGDX 2024 was a wonderful event organized by Indonesian developers for Indonesian developers.

IGDX 2024 provides an excellent showcase for developers nationwide to meet and present their games to various publishers, partners, and media outlets, building up their presence in the local and global industry.

Virtual SEA had the opportunity to roam the showcase floor and even created threads highlighting the games that exhibited their amazing demos and teams at the event – Part 1 and Part 2. Here are some of the games that we took an interest in!

Dungeon Meshi meets Coffee Talk in this entertaining tavern management sim. While heavily D&D-inspired, the lore and culture of West Java shine, especially in the culinary aspect. Mixing genres of cooking, tycoon sim, visual novel, and even murder mystery, it’s a beautiful and enthralling fantasy packaged into a sedap experience.

The survival rougelite genre continues its wild popularity, and the Frame Rats team has developed their own furry, frantic take. A bullet-heaven inspired by the profoundly engaging Vampire Survivors loop follows the adventures of Oyen, who can’t be anything else but a chaotic orange cat. The post-apocalyptic setting and Chinese zodiac themes flesh out a unique world that Frame Rats are building for survival roguelite fans.

Horror retains its hallowed place in the Southeast Asian games industry. Niskala by Pandora Entertainment takes the concept and creates a snapshot of Balinese daily life and folklore for players to explore—and, of course, get scared in. Featuring fantastic graphics and attention to detail that are perfect for exploratory games, we’re excited to see the spooky heights this game will take.

Bonus: Garena Games Game Jam Winners

The Garena Games booth at IGDX 2024 also featured top placers at the Garena Game Jam 2023, highlighting projects made with talented teams and pressure-cooker deadlines.

Three games – ManPac, Repeat after Death, and Hope – had the chance to showcase their games to a broader audience. Under the theme of “Replayability,” the young developers took on the challenge of creating unique and intentional designs within 48 hours, creating fun and inventive interactive experiences.

We continue to be excited by the amount of talent, potential and support that the Indonesian game development industry steadily grows yearly.

Kenzie received a second childhood by crunching five generations of video game history in her free time – out of pure boredom and fascination. Since then, she’s been obsessively playing and writing about games and interactive fiction. She hopped aboard VirtualSEA to discover more about the regional game industry and help promote its talent and titles. She has a rolling list of favorite games, but Knights of the Old Republic and Horizon Zero Dawn come out on top.
