October 13, 2024 | Kenzie

IGDX continues to grow bigger and better, reflecting the impressive growth of the Indonesian games market. VirtualSEA gained key insights from IGDX Day 1 and 2 Business Matchmaking and Booth Showcase through face-to-face conversations and observations.

Numerous Programs Giving Opportunities to Up-and-Coming Developers

Government programs and corporations have given great interest in supporting game development talents, fast-tracking their progress, and learning as businesses.

IGDX Bootcamp 2024 brought 3 best projects of 46 teams: Scrollbearer by Rock Paper Switchblade, Potion Promise by Eggtato, and Phonoi Cabin by The Fools.

Google Play x Unity Developer Training hosted a graduation ceremony for its six-month training program, which involved dozens of participants coming together at the Bali event. Google Play is a platform with a significant presence in the Indonesian game development industry. According to Kunal Soni, Indonesia is the 12th largest developer on the Google Play platform, with over 10,000 developers handling over 30,000 titles. Due to work on the platform, 197,000 jobs have been created for Indonesians.

Garena Games also hosted three developers in a booth, showcasing game jam projects that will be polished and developed further into full-fledged games.

International Eyes are on Indonesia

Indonesia’s premier event for game developers is an ideal platform for bringing together the local developer community. The event is also building its reputation as a hotspot for international developers and publishers seeking partnerships and talents.

Notably, French and Polish delegations, each country with thriving games industries, made their way to IGDX Business 2024. Various other international publishers were eager to book meetings and play demos of the local Indonesian developers.

Local Indonesian Gaming Market Continues to Grow

Southeast Asian gamer markets continue to be highly interested in mobile gaming, but Indonesia’s interest in premium indie games is building to impressive heights. The local market is aware of the products Indonesian developers are creating and is rallying towards these IPs, building strong communities and events and showing significant advancement compared to other Southeast Asian markets.

Kenzie received a second childhood by crunching five generations of video game history in her free time – out of pure boredom and fascination. Since then, she’s been obsessively playing and writing about games and interactive fiction. She hopped aboard VirtualSEA to discover more about the regional game industry and help promote its talent and titles. She has a rolling list of favorite games, but Knights of the Old Republic and Horizon Zero Dawn come out on top.
